(WTVM)- The devastation you see on the television following severe weather, like the tornado that ripped through Oklahoma, may leave some children worried or confused about the images they are seeing.

Changes coming to Alabama gun laws

(WTVM)- After months of negotiations between several Alabama state entities, State Bill 286 is heading to the desk of Governor Robert Bentley after passing the House in a 73-28 vote Monday.

Under the bill, businesses can not prohibit their employees from having firearms in their cars while at work. However, employees must have a license to carry a concealed weapon.

Also, sheriffs now have complete discretion over requests for concealed weapons permits and must issue a written justification for denying a permit.

Happy homecoming for Valley military heroes

VALLEY, AL (WTVM)- National Guard Specialist Harrison Barninger held his daughter Lexi Marie for the very first time on Monday.

"Oh, it's amazing," says Barninger.

Our team first brought the Barninger's story to you last October, when Harrison was able to witness his daughter's birth via Skype over 7,000 miles away in Afghanistan.

Monday, 45 soldiers returned home to Valley after an eleven month deployment in South Afghanistan.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- We're thrilled to report that six of the eight animals we showcased last week have been adopted or placed in rescue groups.  A cat and a dog are still available for adoption.  Here is a look at today's pets that are in desperate need of a forever home.

Tag 350 is an adult black and white female bulldog mix. She may have a bulldog's tough exterior, but she's a real sweetie with a gentle heart.

Tag 363 is an adult male domestic shorthair brown tabby.  This handsome gentleman can't wait to come home to a loving family!

91-year-old Valley woman raped, police looking for perpetrator

VALLEY, AL (WTVM)- Valley police are looking
for the suspect who they say viciously attacked a 91-year-old woman and raped
her inside her home on 55th Street.

Saturday night around
8:30, valley police say a 911 call came in from an elderly lady needing help at
her Valley home.

"She was locking the door of her residence… there
was a man on her back porch, he asked if he could come in and use the phone,
she said no and that's when he forced his way in," said Valley Police Chief
Tommy Weldon.
